Hello, I'm Dr Sarah Tomlinson. I am a HPC (Health Professions Council) registered clinical psychologist with 20 years working in NHS adult services. I have worked with adults for 20 years, and worked within NHS community services since 2003. I completed my doctorate in 2007 and have a special interest in adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Learning Disabilities (LD).
Therapeutically I draw on Acceptance and Commitment therapy and Mindfulness, but most importantly I believe change occurs by having unconditional acceptance and support in understanding our difficulties, validating our pain, and support to work through and better understand our feelings and relationships.
Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist I have had further training in the diagnosis of ASD using the ‘gold standard’ measures: ADOS (Autism Diagnosis Observation Scale) and DISCO (Diagnostic Instrument for the assessment of Social and Communication Disorders), in specific therapies eg Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and in the assessment of behaviour that may challenge (Applied Behaviour Analysis).
I am passionate about helping people to understand themselves, or be understood, whether this be through diagnostic assessment, therapy or both. Most importantly, I believe everyone has the potential to follow their goals and achieve contentment in life.
Rooms available in various locations in the North West, including Salford and Preston.
Due to my NHS commitments I work evenings (after 6pm) and weekends
